The return of Trump shows the decadence of American imperialism

Trump's return to government marks the terminal state of democracy in the United States. Trump is the man who led the country to the absolute and relative world record of deaths during the pandemic by applying the theory of herd immunity. He is a man who tried to stay in power through a coup d'état in January 2021 in which he even tried to assassinate the president of Congress and his own vice president for their refusal to certify that the elections had been fraudulent. He is also a man who has declared that he will deport 10 million people who reside and work in the United States and, according to the international press, intends to turn the FBI, the CIA and the tax departments into a kind of comprehensive espionage on its citizens.

Clearly the United States, the so-called democracy of the world, is completely decadent as a democracy, and in an irreversible decline. The reason for this phenomenon is due to the fact that North American imperialism has been in global decline for a long time. It is no longer the United States that managed 60 % of international trade after the Second World War, but one that participates in less than 25 % of international trade and is naturally surpassed by China. The gross product of the United States is no longer the world’s first, as it has been surpassed by China's according to the purchasing power of its inhabitants. There has been a decline in all spheres of production and commerce, in some cases absolute, in other cases still relative, with respect to China. That is, the United States still retains its primacy but China is closing the gap.

This means that the economic capacity to solve the population's problems, to guarantee full employment, wages, social protection, and the right to housing have crumbled. Mortgage and interest rates on credit cards are completely usurious. There is no access to housing and consumer credit has been cut off and the situation of the consumer, that is, of the North American worker, has visibly worsened due to something that we Argentines unfortunately know too. During the pandemic and in the so-called fight against inflation, the wages of American workers plummeted. After their purchasing power receded enormously they began to be adjusted for inflation, that is, to maintain a scheme of low purchasing power of the workers and popular classes. This is what Milei is doing in Argentina, stealing half of the purchasing power of retirees and salaried workers and now he wants to adjust them for inflation, that is to say, keep it at that level. This is an absolutely enormous benefit for the big capitalists.

So Trump is the expression of an imperialist nation in decline. The main capitalist power of the world cannot take advantage of the privileges that the preponderant countries have to partially improve the living conditions of the population. Therefore what we have is the passage from a democratic regime to an authoritarian or dictatorial regime. Trump has said that he is willing to rule with martial law, therefore he is an international threat to democracy and the rights of workers in an unquestionable way.

On the other hand, however, he has said that he has never participated in a war and he would stop all wars. Well, he is lying. In a conversation with Nethanyahu, he asked him to finish off the Palestinian issue as quickly as possible. He is the most fervent supporter of the genocide of the Palestinian people and the war in Lebanon, that would go unchanged. He has also sabotaged the negotiations for a nuclear agreement with Iran, therefore he is in favor of eventually changing the regime in Iran through war. He is a warmonger.

Of course he realizes, as many have by now, that the United States has lost all the last wars within the framework of the setback I have pointed out. In Afghanistan, they ran after the planes pursued by a nation of illiterate Muslim peasants. The first world power running like thieves from one of the poorest countries. They have completely failed in Iraq, where they destroyed the country and have left nothing positive. The same thing happens with other wars that have been carried out. The United States is the most militarily defeated country in the world.

Trump, as a representative of imperialism, understands this situation and has to put a remedy to it; and that remedy is to reorganize the country internally, subject it to an authoritarian regime, discipline the population and, through economic measures, strengthen, recover or reactivate North American capitalism so that it can compete internationally. Can you imagine the Yankees fighting to be able to compete? And among its plans there is a tremendous protectionist policy, that has always been the cause of the great wars because it leads to the dislocation of world trade, and has promised a drastic reduction in taxes on profits and all forms of business income. This is the biggest call of the so-called big technology companies or the Silicon Valley companies, those into the digital economy and those developing artificial intelligence who want to finance their capital expenditures by stopping paying taxes. That's why Elon Musk supports Trump and in return he is going to appoint him Secretary of State Restructuring, a portfolio that does not exist in the United States but that did not exist in Argentina either and Milei gave to Struzenegger.

The objective of all this is to give free rein to the big capitalists to privatize, to execute their rivals' bankruptcies, etc. Trump has the support from the most concentrated and most important sector of North American capitalism, something he did not have when he first came to power in 2016.

As for Ukraine I am going to risk it and make a prediction. Ukraine is collapsing in this war and if Ukraine collapses then a country whose territory is the largest in Europe would be completely adrift. This will be a crisis factor in Europe, already ravaged by Macron's crisis, the imminent fall of the German government and the Pedro Sánchez disaster in Spain after the climate catastrophe that has come about. Therefore when Trump says “I am going to end the war”, what he is really saying is: I am going to carry out a coup d'état, overthrow Zelensky and, in common accord with Putin, install a government that will allow Putin and Trump to reach an agreement on the territorial distribution of the country. That would mean that instead of this country being governed by one imperialism, it will be governed by both. How do we stop this? That 's the issue at hand. This can only be stopped by the working class that cannot admit the massacres in the Middle East, the wars with aims to change the political regime in the Middle East, that is met not with peace in Ukraine but with an arrangement that foreshadows future great wars because Ukraine is a very important country to leave it in a state of suspension between Trump and Putin. The solution for the world is socialism, international socialism. The workers' government it's the government of the class that has always fought in defense of Democracy, that is the authentic way out because without it, world imperialism prepares more catastrophes, more wars and more climate crises for the coming decades. This is my assessment.
